(US Air Force)
Apparently not. According to Axios, President Trump wants to ditch the gorgeous and iconic Raymond Loewy livery on the new Air Force One and replace it with something that “looks more American,” perhaps with more of our trademark red white and blue, but more importantly isn’t a “Jackie Kennedy color.”
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Loewy’s design has been on Air Force One, and other US government VIP aircraft, since the 1960s. It is distinctive, elegant and, above all, instantly recognizable. Before the first 707 received Loewy’s livery, earlier presidential aircraft had a brilliant orange nose. Perhaps there’s is some guidance to be found there? Maybe just put the orange on the top?
Anyway, I thought Oppo’s Photoshop geniuses could come up with some sort of appropriate MURICA livery for Trump’s new plane, which he may well never fly in. The next AF1 won’t be delivered until at least 2021.

But there can only be one good red, white, and blue livery
Well, maybe two

Personally, I like the new look of Air Force 1.

Better throw some #branding on there. “The President of The United States, brought to you by WALMART. Landing Gear sponsor Goodyear.”
Turn that plane into some full on NASCAR livery.

Raymond Loewy was such a fantastic industrial designer. He really did so many incredible things in his lifetime. To repaint AF1 would be a shame.

Don’t forget, there was actually talk of this:

Wait did he really call it a Jackie Kennedy color or is that someone else's likening? What's wrong with Jackie O. She was a fox

I dunno, it could look ridiculous, or it could look good. BMW added red to the R1100S Boxer Cup, and it helped. Pre-2005 were just blue and white, like the BMW roundel. 2005 Boxer Cup replicas added red from the BMW Motorsport triple stripe
A bit of history: the purple in the motorsport triple stripe, is the combination of the blue from Bavaria’s provincial flag , where the blue and white grid pattern comes from , and Texaco red, a long-time BMW motorsports sponsor.
Although the BMW Motorrad Lupin B lue is darker than the Bavarian flag blue
Meanwhile, back on the topic...
Using red white and blue from the American flag, on Air Force One... is not that far fetched an idea... but people are going to jump on it because of who proposed it.
What really matters is the design, and whether it is dignified enough for the importance of the office of the President of the United States.

I thought he was againts spending money on bullshit like paintjobs and new airplanes. Keep the current design; graphic designers can stay in the reams
of Tumblr for another day.

I think that of all people, Trump should not be allowed anywhere near this , and agree that the current traditional colors are elegant, appropriately understated, timeless, and not in need of change, but... a 747 would look neat in a Thunderbird livery.

If Trump has anything to do with the design, I’m guessing it will end up being something cheesy like this:

What would even be the process of redesigning the paint scheme? I would the assume the Air Force would be in charge of that, no?

I dunno, there’s nothing sacred about an airplane’s livery. I like the current scheme, but change could be good too. I’d be interested to see what they come up with.

Yall know whats coming
Or Maybe:
I lack the photoshop skills to put these on an airplane, but you get the idea.

So which crony with ties to questionable groups and/or no real world cred will get this gig? Given someone’s interior decorating choices, it’s hard to be optimistic about this.

I dont see where it's coming from. AF1 is pretty American. Maybe he wants the livery more in line with the fox news graphics.

He just has to undo absolutely everything that was ever done by people not named Donald Trump.
![]() 07/13/2018 at 12:58 |

I’m more of the if it ain’t broke don’t fix it mindset. So I’d leave it alone too. However, my kind of attitude would have resulted in not even bothering to come up with the current livery. I can see how a certain amount of marketing to project an image of the US would lead to hiring Lower to design the plane, and it worked as intended.
But, I can also see an argument for a new design for the same reasons. What’s iconic to some may to modern eyes look staid and old-fashioned . So, I’m trying to keep an open mind. All the low-hanging jokes aside, I’m not worried about getting something garish and undignified.

Its parked right up the road from me year round...there’s actually two of them, but the second one (at least last time I saw it) didn’t have the Patriots lettering on it, so Bob Kraft could just give it directly to the President as is.

Well, Kinja is doing its thing now and I cannot reply to individual comments or scroll down the whole list, so apologies if this has been mentioned already.
Regarding Mr Trump’s comment on “a Jackie Kennedy colour”... strangely enough, the archetypal image I have in my head of Jackie is dressed with a powder blue wool suit with hat to match. Which is weird because a) I did not grow up in the States b) JFK was killed a little before I was born.
On the other hand my family kept a sizable collection of magazines from the 60s. I must have “acquired” that image in my mind later in the 70s.
Now, in case you won’t believe how strong the connection w a s between the blue colour and Jackie...

There are many memorable photos from that day in November. Jackie wore that pink bloodstained dress for many hours that day. She was wearing it when LBJ was sworn in on SAM 26000.

That, and it was such a crazy whirlwind day that she never had time to change. She might not even have had a change of clothes.

She might not even have had a change of clothes.
I respectfully disagree. Even if she did not have any (unlikely) a member of her entourage could have done some errands and purchase clothes.
I’d say she wanted to stay that way. In that respect she really acted like a queen (and I mean it in the literal sense).
JFK’s assassination is fast becoming just a pop culture stereotype, mostly associated with the conspiracy theory

Meh, I think it could be updated. I think there is nothing wrong with it but I’m not attached to it. It is possible to update it while maintaining an elegant, classy, timeless look but probably not if Trump has to approve it.
